Fighting for Nursing Home Abuse Victims in the Capital

A founding member of the Colling, Gilbert, Wright and Carter law firm went to Tallahassee to continue the firm’s demonstrated commitment to helping the innocent victims of ” in Florida.

Nathan Carter testified before the Florida Senate Judiciary Committee on April 1 and April 2 and urged Senators to vote against a bill that would further protect abusive or negligent nursing homes from residents who are seeking the justice and compensation they deserve.

“Many people, including legislators, do not worry about nursing home residents’ rights until a member of their own family experiences a Florida nursing home first-hand,? Mr. Carter said.

The proposed law, Senate Bill 1384, would require the innocent victims of nursing home abuse clear yet another procedural hurdle before they could even proceed with a suit.

SB 1384 passed the Judiciary Committee by a 7-2 vote. The bill must clear the rules committee before it reaches the floor of the state Senate. A companion bill in the state House of Representatives, HB 869, is awaiting a hearing from the House Health Innovation Subcommittee.

Both chambers must pass a bill and it must be signed by the Governor before it becomes law.

Our law firm has decades of experience fighting in court for the innocent victims of nursing home abuse in Florida. We’ll continue that fight in the legislature.
